October 17, 1888. A terrible tragedy occurred with the family of Alexander III - the train crashed. But a miracle happened: the imperial family managed to escape. Being shocked by such an amazing event, the tea-gardener AG Kuznetsov asked the tsar to build a church in Foros in honor of this. October 4, 1892, according to the project of N. M. Chagin, the church was built and consecrated by Martinian (bishop of Tavrichesk). The Church glorified the Resurrection of Christ. The royal family often went there, and 10 years after "miraculous salvation" the Foros Church was visited by Nicholas II. The Foros church was built in a Byzantine temple style. The floors were laid out by the Italian mosaic workshop Antonio Salviati. Russian painters were engaged in painting the inner walls: VE Makovsky, AI Korzukhin, Academician NE Sverchkov. In this building, with barbarously destroyed interior decoration, until 1969 there was a snack bar. In 1987, the first restoration of the Foros Church took place, and in 1992 it was restored, but, as experts note, it is unsuccessful. In 2004, during a visit to the church by Leonid Kuchma, he ordered the restoration of the building. The façade, mosaic floors, stained-glass windows, internal painting, gilding, heating and electricity systems were renovated. Also, the former president of Ukraine attended on August 4, 2004 at the opening of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ, at the first divine service and presented the church with the icon of the Mother of God. In memory of this at the entrance to the temple hangs a marble tablet telling tourists that Leonid Kuchma donated money for the return of the original church, giving her a new life. And a new life in the Foros church, which is active and open for visiting, is actively going on. It became a fashionable place for weddings.
