Yalta, or as it is also called the "Russian Riviera" - a resort capital in the southern part of the Crimea. But the administrative center, called Big Yalta, includes: Alupka, Foros, etc. The length of Big Yalta is 72 km, and the territory - 900 hectares, half of which is built up, and the rest is planted with trees and exotic shrubs.

The climate of Yalta is subtropical of the Mediterranean type - warm and dry. The average annual air temperature is + 13 ° С (in May + 16 ° С, in July + 24 ° С, in September + 19 ° С, in October + 14.2 ° С, in November + 9 ° С, in February + 4 ° FROM). Different sources estimate the number of sunny days in a year - 225, 247, 276. The winter is very mild, with a lot of precipitation (humidity 73%), summer hot and dry (62%).

Yalta was founded by the Greeks supposedly in the I century. The legend says that the Greek explorers, who lost their way during the storm, for a long time strayed in search of the shore, and when they finally saw the shore (yalos), they decided to name the settlement based on the place of landing. In the Middle Ages, the city was a part of the Roman (Byzantine) empire, the principality of Theodoro and the Genoese colonies (Gothia Captaincy) and was known by the names of Yalith and Jalit. Unlike Alushta and Gurzuf, Yalta has never been a fortress or an important military stronghold.

Since the middle of the XIX century the city is becoming a popular resort and is growing rapidly. By the beginning of the 20th century, many representatives of the Russian nobility, including members of the imperial family and monarchs themselves, had dachas and palaces in Yalta and Yalta region. During the Great Patriotic War, the city suffered from German occupation and the deportation of Crimean Tatars, carried out in 1944 by Stalin's order. From 4 to 11 February 1945, the Yalta Conference was held in Yalta.

The swimming season in Yalta starts in early June and lasts until October. Especially good are the autumn days, when the sea is still warm, and the sun is not so ruthlessly hot.

Warm sea, combining the healing air of mountain forests with sea air, as well as amazing landscapes that none of the famous resorts can boast of, is the main medical factor that brings health back to people. There are about 200 sanatoriums and tourist establishments - from modest trade-union health resorts to elite hotels and summer cottages, distinguished by a high level of service, and, of course, cost.

The beaches of Yalta consist mainly of pebbles, the bottom is precipitous.

Today's Yalta are picturesque winding streets that run up the hills, and new blocks of high-rise buildings, ancient parks and white ocean liners mooring right at the city's waterfront, modest buildings of sanatoriums that have taken over a thousand tourists during their existence, and modern ensembles of fashionable hotels And health resorts.

A favorite place for walks of holidaymakers and Yalta residents is the embankment of Yalta. Quay, especially in the summer, are solid restaurants, bars, cafes, attractions, casinos, dance halls, shops and shops, and ... a leisurely flow of tourists. From here you can watch the vessels that moor directly to the quays of the embankment, go on a boat or yacht for a walk in the sea or just sit here at a table in a cozy cafe.
