Simferopol is the center of the Crimea
July 30, 2017The city of Simferopol is the center of the Crimea in every sense. The geographical position is almost in the middle of the peninsula, transport - it is from here that the automobile and railways run in all directions. And, of course, administrative, Simferopol - the capital of the Republic of Crimea. By the standards of the new time this is a fairly young city, in 2014 has celebrated its 230th birthday.
The city was born in the form in which we now know it, by the will of the Russian Empress Catherine II the Great. It was she who ordered Prince Grigory Potemkin-Tauric in 1783 to build a city in the center of the Tauride province. The place for the city was chosen near the Salgir River, near the Tatar village of Ak-Mosque. In 1784, the construction of the city was started, the name was given to it by Catherine herself, naming it in a manner peculiar to her, in Greek. Simferopol means a city-collector. And it perfectly conveys its essence so far. The first Saturday of June is considered to be the birthday of the city, since it was in the beginning of June 1784 that the first buildings were laid. However, in fact the city is much older. After all, it is located on the site of the ancient capital of the Scythian state - Naples Scythian.
Simferopol is located in the end of the steppe zone of the Crimea, closer to the mountains. Therefore, its climate is dry and piedmont. Here is a very mild winter, during which the townspeople see snow from the strength of just a week in total. Falling snow on the New Year is considered a real miracle. Summer here is long and quite hot. Of course, there are years when these statements can be called into question, but still a cold and rainy summer in Simferopol - a phenomenon infrequent. Sometimes it lasts almost 9 months, as it was in 2012. When the summer began in April and ended in October, the entire temperature did not fall below +20 degrees Celsius.
Historically, many different nationalities live in the Crimea. Simferopol is a direct reflection of the whole Crimea in this matter. Here live Russians, Ukrainians, Crimean Tatars, Armenians, Greeks, Georgians, Bulgarians and other nationalities. People are very friendly to each other, and to visitors. There is no nationalism in the city.
